We recently spent a wonderful day at the Hortus Botanicus (botanical garden) in Amsterdam. What made it even more special is that there are bees there! The garden has a small apiary right along a canal, with several bee hives, and a volunteer beekeeper oversees the hives.
Honey collected from the hives is sold in the gift shop.
In addition to the bees, Hortus has a palm house, an enchanting butterfly house and several newer greenhouses with a variety of climates.
Hortus is one of the oldest botanical gardens in the world. It was founded in 1638, and is definitely worth a visit if you’re in Amsterdam.
